From a  Karaoke beauty, to a full-fledged songbird, Karina Nuvo, with her incredibly silky, smooth and oh so rich voice, has come a long way since her days of putting on shows in her early 20s in her hometown of Miami. “Even as a little girl, I used to produce whole shows,” she recalled. “Icould sing but I had stage fright but I knew I had to do it.”She went on to join a band and it was then that she heard her voice amplifiedfor the first time and in spite of the challenges she has faced in her life, shehas never looked back. Nuvo went on to produce two sings with a DJ from Miami and even landed a spoton Star Search, which as many children of the 80’s will recall was thepre-cursor to American Idol. After star search the young Cuban singer moved to Los Angeles to pursue music. “I discovered I could write and produce,” she said. Her new adventure was cut short however when Nuvo was diagnosed withendometriosis, a disease which severely affects a women’s uterus. It gets itsname from the word
endometrium, the tissue that lines the uterus. This tissuelooks and acts like the lining of the uterus and grows outside of the uterus inother areas. This disease can adversely affect a woman’s reproductive andsexual health as well as cause infertility and fatigue. Time kept slipping away for Nuvo, who admits that at this point, she didn’thave the patience or the passion to pursue music anymore. “I stopped singing for seven years,” recalls Nuvo of this difficult time in her life.
“I had three surgeries and the medications caused me to go intomenopause.” But not before having her son Christian, 3 1/2. Her pregnancy was a miracleitself given her medical history.“It was a blessing but a shocker,” she recalled. When Nuvo eventually got to work on her just released first album, Nuvo Soul, she knew what she had to do and failure was no longer an option. “I was very careful to do it my way and to work with people I trust,”
shesaid. “Everything I’ve done has been an evolution and no matter what came myway, I found a way to to get back to my music. I was 100% determined to see mymusic around the world. I owe it to myself and my child to do what I’msupposed to be doing.”How does it feel to see a lifelong passion and dream coming to life after yearsof challenges and setbacks?“Amazing!” She gushes. “I was completely lost for seven years.” The music on Nuvo Soul is all written by Nuvo and it has a message, such as herSpanish language song “Amate” (Love Yourself), a message she wants to getacross to all people especially young women. Love yourself, like yourself, take care of yourself and respect yourself. That’s the message and literally, the lyrics! In the months ahead, she hopesto have many opportunities to speak to women and encourage them to do just thatand to let them know that nothing is impossible! Karina Nuvo has come into her own and is fully living her passion and blessingthe world with her incredible music and her message.“Try not to allow others to keep you from doing what you need to do,” sheconcludes. “Your calling has more power than you know. When you really poutyour body, mind and soul into something, you can create success for yourself.”

 PRESS & QUOTES

Karina Nuvo was born in Miami, Florida with Cuban decent (so you know she is fine), and is propelled by a powerful heart-felt force, and a voice to go along with it. Even after a six-year illness, it did not detour her from pursuing her dreams. If you listen closely to her voice, you'll hear a slight quiver, which reminded me of Randy Crawford. After moving to the Los Angeles, to further her career, she selected a team of talented musicians to help envision her dreams, which resulted in her debut Cd "Nuvosoul" a soul/jazz/latin/r&b
flavored cd in English and Spanish.

Did I mention she was fine?

"On My Way", "Love Is In My Life", & "Its Not Impossible" are sultry slow songs which should fit into any quiet storm format. "Amate" is a nice smooth r&b song co-written by Johnny Britt from Impromp2, which is sung in Spanish. Karina has been influenced by lots of artist but none so influential as Earth, Wind and Fire, where she lays down a hot version of "Shining Star" with a serious latin flavor (can you see yourself salsa dancing to this song?).  "With Or With Out Your Love" is a very lovely jazz flavored song. With the help of special guests Michael Lington and Sheldon Reynolds (former E.W.F guitarist), this song should be in rotation on every jazz station.

"Tiempo" & "Adios" are both smooth r&b/latin flavored songs sung in Spanish, which was so-written by Gerald McCauley (on the song tiempo), Danny Thomas and Gerard McMahon (Adios). "Es Que Soy Yo" & "Cuba" are latin swing songs that might be heard in clubs like the "Copa Cabana" and other Cuban Clubs from the early days. Arturo Sandoval had success with songs like these.

Karina did not leave out the latin hip/hop community with a cover of the classic song "Guantanamera"; "I Will Love You" is a compelling Gospel song that exposes her soul while inspiring others to charge on with positiveness and hope to succeed in anything that want to do in life.  "I Will Love You" is about losing a loved one. "Its Not Impossible" is about succeeding in life.

The two Bonus tracks are the Spanish version of "With Or With Out Your Love" and the English version of "Adios".

Karina is determined to bring her bilingual soulful sound to the forefront and hopefully bring her music back to her parent's homeland,  and the world over. Karina is polished and ready for that task. As Executive Producer of this wonderful project, Karina's range is yet to be determined.

This project can be found on CDBaby!

She succeeded by taking influences she grew up with - disco, Latin jazz, R & B, rock and gospel - and spinning them into her own style - "Nuvo Soul." Her beauty turned heads, while her natural talent earned her the opportunities to work with some of the world's most distinguished jazz, R& B and blues singers.

Karina Nuvo also writes many of her own songs. She's a big-voiced wailer who sounds as though she has been in more than a few "amen" corners. The Cuban-American came to LA in her teens."The music I grew up loving," She offers, "was Earth Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan and Donny Hathaway. I don't think I would have developed this way if I had stayed in Miami." Her raw, gospel-based "Waiting for my Kingdom to Come" taps into an elemental vein of soul music as it was routinely heard in the 60's. Nuvo sounds nothing less than an understudy for Patti LaBelle.

Material: Karina Nuvo is a smooth jazz songstress, a pop diva and a proud Cuban crooner all rolled into one. Her resonant voice fluctuates along the entire vocal scale and consistently lands on the right pitch every time. Singing in both English and Spanish, Nuvo is a chameleon of style with the capacity to rise straight to the top of a multitude of genres.

Musicianship: Though Nuvo's voice remains the focal point of each song, the eight musicians who accompany her exhibit the same standout level of musicianship that she possesses. From slow jazz to salsa, each artist is able to effortlessly match the mood of the song by seamlessly switching styles and following Nuvo's vocal lead. Though the two backup singers add some rich harmonies to the softer songs, the blare of the booming band often drowns them out during the upbeat numbers.

Performance: Proving to be an accomplished performer as well as a vocalist, Nuvo fused feeling into each song with impassioned facial expressions and committed hand gestures. Also a talented salsa dancer, she added some extra spice to her Latin-based songs with fiery footwork. Considering that this performance also doubled as a video shoot, she left the stage three times to change outfits, at which point the band opened up into some funky improvisational jams that featured dexterous instrumentation across the board.

Summary: Some artists display a natural vocal gift that places them atop all of the other singers on the scene. Such is the case with Karina Nuvo. Pairing her vocal prowess with an extended band of component musicians, her multi-layered material rings with depth and substance in light of her ability to excel in an eclectic array of musical styles. Karina Nuvo comes across as a label-ready superstar with a promising future.

".......She Is one of the few artists who are completely faithful to her art and it shows in her music"
KC Porter-Multi-Grammy winning Producer

"Be On the lookout for Karina Nuvo , she's a singer-songwriter who posesses a dynamic voice and a striking presence"
-LA Jazz Scene

Karina's debut album, NuvoSoul, is nothing short of spectacular. The result of a blend of soul, jazz and Latin music sung in English and Spanish, listeners are in for a real treat with this album. Her message is honest and positive and her delivery will uplift even the most cynical spirit. Karina integrates every element of her mind, body and soul into her music, which has produced odes to the homeland she has never seen, Cuba, as well as gospel numbers like "I Will Love You", that exposes her soul while inspiring others to charge on with hope. And WE here hope that you all will consider supporting artists such as Karina instead of certain ex-members of Destiny's Child who can't seem to let go of the fact that her last album's sales TANKED 20,000 leagues under the sea...
